What's going on in KC? August 21-26

Ah! I meant to get this out Thursday or Friday but I'm afraid a migraine mowed me down and made it so that typing was about the last thing I could do. So instead of telling you what's going on this weekend...we'll go with Sunday through Thursday...

First off, tomorrow 8/21

TOUCH A TRUCK! My kids love this program, even the older one. It's pretty awesome. There are all sorts of vehicles, firetrucks, police vehicles, tractors available to the kids to climb all over. Also games and drawings and a lot of freebies. This year's price tag is is a new, unwrapped toy (or monetary donation) to be donated to Toys for Tots. It's at the Overland Park Convention Center from 11-4.

Monday, 8/22

Have a kid that's learning to read or one that needs some encouragement to practice reading? Try heading over to Oak Park Library from 6:30-7:30 pm and let them practice reading to a trained dog as part of the Read To A Dog program through Johnson County Libraries.

Tuesday, 8/23

Have some littles that need to burn off energy? Head over to the Matt Ross Community Center from 9-11 am. $1 for members or $2 for non-members for Toddle Time (grownups are free).

Or head over to Pottery Barn Kids at Town Center for storytime at 11 am. Free!

Wednesday, 8/24

Try Music with Mar at 9:30 am. $10 per family. Sing, dance, giggle, bubbles...my (now) five year old loved this program when he was 2!

Thursday, 8/25

Bonner Springs is having a carnival! Tiblow Days start Thursday. Music, carnival, food...prices vary.

Friday, 8/26

Weather permitting, there is a free concert (open air) on the lawn of the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art at 8:30 pm.

On top of all of these, my free recommendation for the week! For kids under 12...go to the Matt Ross Community Center. There's an indoor gym for the kids to play on and in. My kids refer to it as the Monkey Gym since they have a banner with monkeys on it. They can climb on up to the ceiling and it's perfectly safe. There's a section for the newly toddling as well. It's open whenever the center's open and is free to all. ENJOY!

Have any recommendations for free or cheap places for kiddos and they're obligatory grown up? Let me know!

Meet Me!
